The company Millenniata (USA) is going to bring happiness to the creators of electronic archives that store your photos as mementos, blogs, work files and others.
Traditional technology of recording on optical discs has been improved and a new disc format M-Disc with an infinitely long time preservation of information is going to be launched on the market.
The guys from Millenniata believe that the main problem of humanity is short lifespan of traditional CDs and DVDs that can not tolerate moisture, sunlight and heat, because information on them can become unreadable or can be lost within a few years after the recording.
To improve the situation, super-resistant materials are used in the production of CDs, as well as a laser beam of high power and temperature, for recording.
Obtained by “burning” M-Disc marks (pits), as we are told, will be incomparably more durable (safety of data “lying on the shelf” for centuries) and optically more contrast (which is important to read the information), than ordinary CDs, where information is recorded on a layer of organic material, prone to breakage.
Record on M-Disc is possible only on a special writing device (for now only one burner is designed in partnership with LG), and reading – on any DVD-player; it is not possible to rewrite such a disc. The stated capacity of the M-Disc is 4,7 Gb.
The beginning of M-Disc sales and devices for recording is scheduled for September 2011.
Let’s hope that such reason as scratching on the surface of CDs is not forgotten by Millenniata, and “the eternal CD” is resistant not only to natural aging, but to scratches.
In any case, the video proves that it is not a problem.
